Welcome Weekend

Welcome Weekend is a core component of the USF First Year Experience and it is an extensive three-day experience for all new students. During Welcome Weekend, students will have the opportunity to engage with faculty, staff, student leaders, and their peers. New students will get to experience our community at USF, and they will be equipped to begin their college career on a solid foundation through participating in sessions/activities on learning, leadership, and service!

Whether you are a first-time freshman or a transfer student, we want to ensure that you are equipped with the information, resources, and relationships needed for a transformational college experience at USF!  All new students are required to attend Welcome Weekend. The Welcome Weekend 2018 sign up form is found on a new student’s My Cougar Connection (MCC) Cougar Checkpoint. New students must be registered for Welcome Weekend 2018 by August 1.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

1. What is the process for completing a student’s move into the residence halls?

All new students and their guests are directed to go to North Campus, upon their arrival to USF. At North Campus, all new students and their guests will complete a drive thru “check-in” where our staff will verify their housing assignments and parking assignments for the morning. Following this “check-in”, new students and their guests will be directed to their assigned parking lot near their associated residence hall, and then they will be greeted by our Residential Life & Housing Staff with further instruction about how to complete moving in.

2. What do I need for Welcome Weekend Check-In?

  • USF Student ID Card
  • Student ID #

Students’ access to all elements of the Welcome Weekend 2018 Schedule will require that they are able to provide their USF Student ID Card. The USF Student ID Card is not only an official form of identification, but it also serve as a student’s “ticket” to the meals and programs throughout Welcome Weekend 2018.

A student’s university ID # can be found on the back of their USF Student ID Card and also on online on My Cougar Connection (my.sf.edu).

3. Where can I find the full event schedule for Welcome Weekend 2018?

4. When do I receive a parking tag from Campus Security?

  • Residential Students will receive their parking tag during the move-in process on Friday, August 24.
  • Non-Residential Students will receive their parking tags by mail.

If you experience any issues obtaining your parking tag, please contact our Campus Security staff directly.

5. What is the Parent & Family Schedule?

Parents and family members are invited to attend Welcome Weekend 2018! Parents and family will follow the same schedule as students on Friday, August 24 and will be dismissed following the Matriculation Ceremony, Send-Off Ceremony, and Block Party at the Performing Arts Center.

6. What is the Matriculation Ceremony?

The Matriculation Ceremony is a university tradition in which we formally recognize all new, incoming students upon their entrance into the University of Saint Francis. In many ways, this ceremony mirrors our Commencement where students are celebrated at the point of their graduation from USF.

Special Note: Semi-formal attire is suggested for this ceremony.

7. Parking for the Matriculation Ceremony:

New Students: Residence Halls (Residential Students), North Campus (Non-Residential Students)

After completing Welcome Weekend Check-In, all new students will remain parked at Main Campus and they will ride the Cougar Shuttle from North Campus to the Performing Arts Center. New students will be seated together, separately from all other guests at the Matriculation Ceremony, as they will be involved in the ceremony procession and program.

Parents/Family: Performing Arts Center

After completing Welcome Weekend Check-In, all parents and family members will drive separately from their student(s) and park at the Performing Arts Center. New students will be seated separately from all other guests during the Matriculation Ceremony as they will be involved in the ceremony procession and program.

USF Staff/Faculty: Performing Arts Center

***All available parking lots located at the Performing Arts Center, and the blocks surrounding, will be marked with a large, blue USF parking sign to indicate available parking.
